Bringing Kashmir to the world
We are building a home for Kashmir’s stories, places and traditions. A place to understand more, explore further and carry a little of Kashmir into everyday life.
More than a postcard
You might first meet Kashmir through a photograph of Dal Lake. Through a shikara on the water, a cup of kehwa, or saffron stirred into a dish. Each can be the beginning of a connection to a place.
But a photograph leaves questions. What is life like around that lake? What should you understand before taking that ride? What connects the food on your table to the place it comes from? We want to follow those questions beyond the familiar picture.
Kashmir’s story is often encountered in fragments: a view, a headline, a travel list, a product. KashmirSoul is our effort to bring those pieces into a fuller conversation, with room for the less familiar stories too.
Stories that belong together
Our ambition reaches across Kashmir: its cities and small towns, lakes and gardens, food and crafts, traditions and everyday life. Dal Lake and shikaras belong in that picture, alongside the places and questions a visitor might never know to look for.
We want those subjects to lead into one another. A story about a place can open a door to its food. An ingredient can lead to a recipe, a growing region, or a tradition. Bringing those connections together is the idea at the heart of KashmirSoul.
For everyone with a connection to Kashmir
You might be planning your first visit, reading from the other side of the world, or living in Kashmir and wanting to know more about somewhere close to home. We want KashmirSoul to be useful to all of you.
That means making space for both curiosity and practical questions: what a place means, how to explore it thoughtfully, and where to look next. Our aim is a place you can return to as your interest grows.
Our first chapter is food
We begin with something you can bring into your own kitchen. Our shop brings together saffron, dry fruits, honey, kehwa and spices, including produce from neighbouring Ladakh. Our saffron guides and recipes offer a first way into the stories around that shelf.
Learning about Kashmir and enjoying something from it can be part of the same journey. You can read, try a recipe, or choose something from the shop to enjoy at home. This is the starting point from which we hope to build the wider collection.
One place, many reasons to return
A visitor reading about Dal Lake may next want to understand shikaras, explore another part of Kashmir or plan a day around those interests. A reader discovering saffron may want to learn how to use it, then choose a pack for their kitchen. We want to make those journeys easier to follow.
Our business idea is to bring useful knowledge and relevant next steps into the same place. As the collection grows, each well-researched story should help readers discover another place, tradition or product. That is how we hope to earn repeat visits and build relationships beyond a single search or purchase.
How we intend to build the business
The shop is our commercial starting point. The wider vision brings together three ways to create value for readers and for the people and businesses connected to Kashmir:
- Products: connect our existing shop with useful guides and recipes, so readers can understand what they are buying and how to enjoy it.
- Future travel services: develop paid itinerary planning, help arranging places to stay, and complete journeys with local travel professionals. Booking or referral partnerships are possibilities to explore as those services take shape.
- Future local business visibility: offer clearly labelled advertising and partnerships for relevant local guides, travel operators, stays and other businesses seeking to reach people interested in Kashmir.
A clear starting point, a wider horizon
Today, the foundation is the shop, recipes and saffron guides already here. We intend to build out from that foundation into connected coverage of Kashmir’s places, culture and practical visitor questions, with careful research and room for local knowledge.
Travel planning, booking support and advertising belong to a future chapter. We want to develop them as the information, relationships and ability to deliver are in place. The ambition is broad; the work should grow in useful, manageable steps.
Build the next chapter with us
A place is understood through many voices. We want local knowledge and lived experience to help shape this collection, alongside careful research and information that is kept up to date.
We welcome conversations with local contributors, travel businesses, collaborators and potential investors who share this vision. If you want to help build a lasting home for discovering Kashmir, we would like to hear from you.
We are starting with food, with a much wider Kashmir in mind. Bringing its stories to the world, creating opportunities around them, and giving people a reason to return: that is the KashmirSoul we are working towards.
